In 1978, fifteen men participated in the first IRONMAN® triathlon on the streets of Honolulu, Hawaii. It has since evolved into the annual IRONMAN® World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN® North American Championship Texas event, an early-season race held in The Woodlands (located 27 miles north of Houston, Texas), serves as one of its many world qualifying events.

Located in the beautiful Adirondack mountains, the 2017 IRONMAN® Lake Placid is one of the longest-running and most challenging American triathlon events. Athletes begin with a two-loop swim in clear Mirror Lake, with the famous sight line at the bottom of the lake to guide them. Transitioning in the Olympic Speed Skating Oval to the bike for a race on a demanding two-loop course with rolling mountain views, and then a 26.2-mile run through the town and around the lake.
